Locality
Quiet and unspoilt seaside getaway. Beautiful sandy beach in sheltered bay.
Bosa is located only 50 Km south of Alghero. The charming, pretty and colourful town of Bosa unfolds on the hill side between the medieval Malaspina Castle and the River Temo. The main street Vittorio Emmanuele II is lined by 19th century palazzos with balconies decorated with iron balustrades and interesting souvenir shops, cafes and bars, but as you step behind the main street and ascend towards the castle you will find yourself in a labyrinth of cobbled lanes, alleys, and staircases, surrounded by vividly coloured houses giving a sense of authenticity and an original character. The river Temo runs through Bosa, crossed by Ponte Vecchio and lined with palm trees on one side and the ancient 18th century tanneries on the other. If you have a sense of adventure, Bosa will not disappoint you. Bosa is a great place for a holiday, a place to relax and unwind. There are numerous beaches nearby. The largest one is Bosa Marina. There are many smaller coves and unusual rock formations accessible by car, footpath or boat. From Bosa you can book a trip along the navigable length of the river Temo, which is about five kilometres, up to the ruins of a Roman bridge passing the Romanesque cathedral of Saint Peter. You can also take boat trips along the coast and see breathtaking views of the local scenery, with hidden coves and beaches, or you can hire a boat and take a trip to find your own secluded cove and swim or snorkel from the boat.
For the active holidaymaker there are many water sports available. Bosa has at least three Dive Centres where you can learn to dive or, if you are already experienced, you can hire all the equipment and make a dive with a local experienced diver, who will show you the most interesting places to dive in the crystal clear water. From the beach there are Jet Ski's to hire along with windsurfers and kite surfers.
If your passion is fishing you are in the right place. Both the river Temo and the sea around this coast team with fish. Fishing is one of the local passions and almost everyone here fishes. From Bosa Marina it is possible to take a trip for sea fishing. There are two boats that take holidaymakers of all abilities out to some favourite fishing spots and they can also advise on how best to cook your catch.
This area is a wine making area with several very good wines produced locally but very rarely found outside the area. There are several local cantina where you will be welcome to try the wine produced and take a look at the wine making process. Some wines to look out for are Malvasia di Bosa; a complicated wine often drunk as an aperitif, it can be almost sweet but at the same time has a dry finish. There are also very nice digestives made with lemons or myrtle berr.
For those interested in nature and wildlife Sardinia is a paradise, with a wide range of interesting flora and fauna. You will find many interesting species of plants, some of which are exclusive to Sardinia. There are also many types of interesting animals to be seen here in Sardinia. To the north of Bosa, in a protected area, you can find one of the few remaining nesting sites of the Griffon Vulture. These huge birds can often be seen circling from the road leaving Bosa towards Alghero. It is also possible to go by four wheel drive vehicle up to observe the nesting sites. |
